Below are some of the ways The Shop works to maintain a safer, more inclusive environment for every guest.

How The Shop Keeps Your Play Safer

  • New Member Vetting: All new members complete an application before joining. This helps curate a community that aligns with The Shop’s values around consent, inclusion, and respectful exploration, instead of just numbers at the door.
  • Photo & Age Verification: Age and identity verification are required before accessing the website or attending events. Everyone inside is a real adult who belongs in the space.
  • Consent Awareness Policies Program (CAPP)™: Before attending an event, new members are guided through CAPP, which explains The Shop’s core consent policies in clear language so expectations are understood before you ever walk in.
  • Safer Space Monitors (SSM)™: At events, you’ll see staff in green SSM shirts. Their role is to help keep the space welcoming, inclusive, and safer. Please respect their instructions and allow them to stay focused on monitoring the environment so support is always available when needed.
  • STD/STI Testing On Site: Regular testing is a key part of safer sex. To make it easier, Central Outreach Clinic provides free STD/STI testing at The Shop, typically during events on the 3rd Friday of the month.
  • Safer Space Professionals (SSP)™: New spaces and experiences can feel intense. When needed, a Safer Space Professional is available to help you ground, process, and move at a pace that feels right for you.
  • Zero-Tolerance Policy: Policies are actively enforced, not just written on a wall. Disrespect, harassment, or policy violations have real consequences, up to and including permanent removal of membership when necessary.
  • 24/7 Online Incident Reporting: If something happens, you can report it anytime through an online reporting portal. Reports go directly to club management and an SSP for review as soon as possible so concerns aren’t ignored or minimized.
